Flash has been around for quite sometime, and has recently gotten some very cool upgrades, such as 3d implementation. Flash brings much to web development in the form of interactivity, animation image manipulation and video playback, giving your website a more professional and exciting appearance. We develop anything from simple flash banners to large scale touch screen kiosk projects. Widely used on majority of websites is flash banners on the main home page, which have changing images of the latest products or important information for visitors.
Development time of flash takes more time to create being a bit more involved, this can take anywhere from an hour to a few weeks. Interactivity, is a very attractive component to have on one's website, not only keeping the user on the website for longer but allowing you to control all of the environment that they interact with. The more complex the interactivity, the longer the programming time required.
The only problem with Flash is that the Flash Player plugin must be installed into the users' web browser otherwise they will not be able to view the content. Most people that browse the internet are aware of it and have it installed. Abobe estimates that 95% of browsers have the the plugin installed. As a precautionary backup, you can setup a fallback image that they will see, should they not have flash installed, and be directed to download it.
Micro sites and big website campaigns are generally completely made with flash, to really be able to push the limits of web design. However full flash websites are not ideal for standard websites, as it restricts the client from updating content and removes their control of the website, without involving a developer every time.
JSA MassMedia has used Flash in the development of shopping carts, product catalogues and customizers, interactive advertising, touch kiosks and online games.
